The Red Boa Shrimp is a premium Caridina variety prized for its intricate snake-like Boa pattern and striking contrast of deep red markings over a predominantly white to creamy-white body. Developed through generations of selective breeding from high-grade Galaxy Fishbone and Pinto-type Caridina lines, Red Boas combine dense coloration with the complex webbed patterning that makes Boa shrimp so highly sought after.
Unlike the Red Sunset Boa, which typically displays a warmer pink to reddish translucent base beneath its red patterning, the Red Boa generally has a much whiter and more opaque base coloration. This creates a sharper red-and-white contrast and gives the shrimp a distinctly different appearance.
Each Red Boa is unique. Patterns may range from bold red patches and streaks to highly intricate web-like, marbled, and snakeskin markings extending across the head, carapace, and body. Higher-quality individuals may develop increasingly dense coloration and more elaborate patterning as they mature.
Red Boa shrimp may feature:
- 🔴 Deep red to crimson Boa patterning
- ⚪ White to creamy-white base coloration
- 🕸️ Intricate webbed, marbled, or snakeskin-like markings
- ✨ Patterning across the head, carapace, and body
- 🧬 Individual variation in red coverage, white coverage, and pattern density
Important: Red Boa coloration and patterning naturally vary from shrimp to shrimp. Juveniles may also continue developing stronger coloration and more defined patterns as they mature.
All shrimp are disease-free and aquarium-safe, bred in controlled environments for healthy and stable individuals.
Note: All Caridina shrimp are sold as unsexed juveniles, typically between 1/4" and 1/2" in size when possible.
⚠️ Boa shrimp are known to be more delicate than many other Caridina varieties. Stable water parameters and a mature, well-established aquarium are crucial for their success.
🌊 Recommended Water Parameters for Red Boa Shrimp
-
Temperature: 68–74°F (20–23°C)
-
pH: 5.5–6.5 (acidic)
-
GH: 4–6
-
KH: 0–1
-
TDS: 100–150 ppm
-
Substrate: Active soil (pH-buffering)
-
Tank Mates: Other Taiwan Bee shrimp or peaceful nano fish
Tips for Success:
Red Boa Shrimp thrive in a mature, well-cycled aquarium with soft, acidic water and plenty of established biofilm for grazing. RO water remineralized with a Caridina-specific GH+ mineral is recommended for maintaining consistent parameters. Because selectively bred Boa shrimp can be sensitive to sudden changes, prioritize stability over frequently adjusting water parameters.
