The Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata), also known as Yamato Shrimp or Japanese Algae Shrimp, is one of the most sought-after freshwater shrimp in the aquarium hobby. Renowned for their incredible algae-eating abilities, these hardy and active shrimp are an essential addition to any planted tank or aquascape.
With their translucent bodies speckled with rows of dark dots, Amano Shrimp blend seamlessly into their environment while constantly grazing on algae, biofilm, detritus, and leftover food. Compared to other dwarf shrimp, they grow larger and are highly efficient cleaners that help maintain a balanced, healthy ecosystem.
Unlike most ornamental shrimp, Amano Shrimp are incredibly resilient and adaptable, making them a great choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists alike.
